How do I buy my timber cut to size?

Timbersource is one of the UK's leading suppliers of hardwood and quality softwood cut to size. We offer two main services for this. Our bespoke timber cut to exact sizes can help when you need to match up to a design spec from an architect, designer or engineer. Our Mill onsite can cut your timber to order, made to measure and planed all round (PAR) from your cutting list. If your project is flexible and you want to see our standard timber sizes then select from our planed timber range. These sizes work very well for finding those economical sweet spots in the way timber is sold. What is PAR or PSE timber?

PAR is planed all round and PSE is planed square edge. This simply means you timber is put through a machine to turn it from sawn and irregular to smooth and parallel ready to build with.

Why do I need timber planed all round?

Timber is rough sawn and stored in packs at a set size so it will need to be planed to make it smooth and regular so its ready to build with.

Will I get my timber finished to the exact sizes I select or will it be smaller when its planed?

If you use the cutting list above to get an instant price on your timber, this will specify the timber as you want it finished. Our mill team can select the timber to expertly cut and plane it to finish at the exact sizes you select.

Can I get sawn boards to my exact sizes?

An important note is the variability of sawn boards. Even when a sawn board is 75mm thick this is just the stock category and the thickness could vary by 5mm over or under. Sawn boards are usually ordered by those with the machines to re-cut and plane to their desired sizes. If you want your timber to an exact size the best way to gaurantee this is to have us plane it for you. Sawn boards are often irreguar and they also have deep saw marks in. We can get these boards planed square and parallel for you so you are ready to build with.

Why is my timber price coming out so high?

This will likely be because the sizes you asked for is either too thick, wide or long to get from a standard board and the computer prices it to be glued together in multiple pieces to achieve. We may still be able to help you with this size but we recommend you get in touch with us to discuss your project.

How long will it take to get my timber?

Our standard lead times on planed all round (PAR/PSE) is 5 working days and cladding profiles are 7-10 working days.

Can I get my timber quicker?

If its urgent and you need your timber quicker than our standard lead times you can select the next available day and if less than 5 working days it will charge a £50 flat fee.

Can I get my timber in lengths under 1 metre?

If you want your timber 500mm long just simply enter 0.5m into the cutting list. Our minimum length is 0.15m (150mm).

Can I order my timber in linear or running metres?

If you put a 1 in the metre box and then 100 in the quantity you can get a rough price for 100 linear metres but we would recommend getting in touch with the sales team. With linear metres the length can depend on the pack length so its worth checking with us first. We can also help to get a better price.

When it says random length will i get lots of different lengths or short pieces?

Random lengths simply means the length you will get can't be gauranteed yet as it will depend on the pack length in stock at the time of order. This could be anywhere between 1.8m and 4.8m but it will be in one consistent length. You can contact the sales team to enquire what lengths we have in stock. We will also get in touch with you to check you are happy with the lengths before machining.

Is it better to order long lengths and cut them down or specify exact lengths it will be cut to?

This is up to the individual customer. We can cut to length or provide long lengths. If what we have in stock isnt long enough for what you specify the team may take longer to produce it so specifying the length you need it gives you a better chance of getting your order on time.
