Is Pine good for cladding?
Pine is a very cost effective and easy to work cladding option however it will need to be either tanalised (green treated) or have a treatment applied to it in order to protect it from weathering and rotting. Pine is very porous and fungal attack will occur quickly if the timber is not protected. It is a perfect timber to use for any interior cladding or panelling project.
How long does Pine cladding last?
Without regular maintenance, (treating/painting/oiling) Pine will last 5-10 years before it starts to decline in appearance and structural integrity in wet conditions.
Can you paint Pine cladding?
Pine is great for painting but you may need to apply a ‘knotting’ solution which is a knot treatment oil to stop the paint discolouring where the knots may bleed a sap over time.
What is the best finish for Pine cladding?
If ‘best’ means to improve durability then a wood preserver would be best or an external paint.
Does Pine cladding need to be treated?
For external cladding Pine would need to be treated. Also a good tip is that if you buy treated Pine and cut the timber you will need to add additional treatment to the fresh cuts.
