Ordering Cherry Planed Timber from Timbersource
Part of our American Hardwoods collection, our cherry timber is stocked kiln dried, and is usually imported with a square edge, though we can accommodate orders for log sawn boards for an improved ratio of cherry’s well coloured heartwood. Ordering cherry planed timber from Timbersource is a fantastic choice for use in interior joinery or furniture, although it is also often utilised for flooring, panelling, and musical instruments.
Available thicknesses include 26mm, 32mm, 38mm, 52mm, 63mm, and 76mm, while widths are usually anywhere from 90mm to 200mm, and lengths vary above 2.1m.
Ordering cherry planed timber from Timbersource provides you with an attractive wood which machines well, is great for nailing and gluing, and polishes well once it has been sanded. It is dimensionally stable once kilning has occurred, but does dry with moderate shrinkage. The heartwood is resistant to both decay and – less so – preservative treatment, while the sapwood is vulnerable to attack from the common furniture beetle, unless properly treated.

What is FAS Grade
The FAS grade, which derives from an original grade "First And Seconds", will provide the user with long, clear cuttings - best suited for high quality furniture, interior joinery and solid wood mouldings. Minimum board size is 6" (152mm) and wider and 8' (2.44m) and longer. The FAS grade includes a range of boards that yield from 83.3% (10⁄12ths) to 100% clear-wood cuttings over the entire surface of the board. The clear cuttings must be a minimum size of 3" (76mm) wide by 7' (2.13m) long or 4" (102mm) wide by 5' (1.52m) long. The number of these cuttings permitted depends on the size of the board with most boards permitting one to two. The minimum width and length will vary, depending on species and whether the board is green or kiln dried. Both faces of the board must meet the minimum requirement for FAS.
