General Description
Walnut (Julans regia) boards vary in colour from the pale outer sapwood through grey-brown with tinges of pink to the narrow-centre heartwood being almost black. Grain often has a wavy appearance with darker streaks and this interesting aspect is one of the reasons the species is often used for high quality cabinet-making. Blue-black staining may occur when the boards are in contact with steel or iron.
Walnut is used for gun-stocks, for appearance and strength, and is a relatively easy timber to work and plane. We keep a limited stock of 20 - 52mm thicknesses; make sure that you check availability.
